Art Basel Paris 2026: What to Know Before the Fair
The fifth Art Basel Paris opens Oct. 23 with 211 exhibitors under a new director. Dates, tickets, sectors and the city-wide public program.

Art Basel Paris opens to the public on Friday, Oct. 23, under the glass roof of the Grand Palais, and the fair's fifth edition arrives with a new director, 211 exhibitors from 41 countries and a city-wide public program that extends from the Place Clemenceau to the Eiffel Tower. This guide covers dates, tickets, sections and the outdoor and institutional projects Art Basel has announced.
Dates and tickets
The fair runs Oct. 23 to 25 at the Grand Palais, open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Preview days are Oct. 21 and 22, with a public vernissage on Oct. 22. Avant-Première, the invitation-only preview for galleries and their principal clients, takes place on Oct. 20 in its second edition.
The Grand Palais lists a one-day ticket at 47 euros, or 30 euros for students, visitors under 26 and holders of certain Louvre cards. An evening ticket for Friday, Oct. 23, between 5 and 7 p.m., costs 40 euros. The opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 2 to 8 p.m., is 120 euros. The entrance is at 7 Avenue Winston Churchill.
Who is showing
Art Basel says the fair brings together 211 exhibitors from 41 countries and territories, with nearly 30 galleries taking part for the first time and a record 12 joint booth presentations. More than 60 exhibitors operate spaces in France. Galleries come from the United States, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Lebanon, Indonesia, South Africa, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire and Tunisia, among others.
This is the first edition under the direction of Karim Crippa. He said the fair's strength is "the extraordinary concentration of activity around it: the institutional exhibitions, cross-disciplinary encounters, and conversations."
The three sectors
The fair is organized into three sections. Galeries is the main sector, for established galleries showing the full scope of their programs. Emergence is dedicated to emerging galleries and artists and includes 16 solo presentations. Premise is for unique curatorial projects rooted in art history that put different periods in dialogue.
Two programs return from earlier editions. Oh La La!, the fair's rehang initiative, takes place on Oct. 23 and 24 and is led by a guest from outside the art world, who had not been named in the sources we reviewed. The GrandPalaisRmn Art Workshops will show a new contemporary print for the Louvre, commissioned from the artist Fabrice Hyber.
The public program
Miu Miu is the official partner of the Public Program, which Art Basel describes as taking to the streets, gardens and landmarks of Paris. Announced projects include:
Robert Indiana's monumental LOVE Wall on the Place Clemenceau.
Niki de Saint Phalle's mosaic-covered Cat Head Totem, part of a trail of sculptures along Avenue Winston Churchill.
Cosima von Bonin's plush animal sculptures at the Petit Palais.
Three monumental bronze sculptures by Tracey Emin on the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme, facing the Eiffel Tower.
Geste de Consolation, the French filmmaker Alice Diop's debut as an exhibition-maker, at the Palais d'Iéna.
Kutluğ Ataman's 40-screen video installation Küba, about a vanished Istanbul neighborhood, at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
The market backdrop
Art Basel cites its own Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report 2026, which says sales in France reached 4.5 billion dollars in 2025, up 9 percent year over year after two years of contraction. France accounts for 8 percent of the global art market, ranking fourth worldwide and first in the European Union, the report says. Because the fair's organizer co-publishes that report, readers may want to treat the figures as the industry's view rather than an independent audit.
How to approach it
A fair of this size rewards a plan. The Grand Palais entrance sits on the Avenue Winston Churchill side, and the fair's two sector names, Emergence and Premise, are useful filters: Emergence for new names, Premise for single-idea curatorial presentations. The public program is free to see in the streets, which makes it a sensible first stop for visitors who do not have fair tickets.
New Yorkers will recognize the pattern of the week: a flagship fair at the center and institutions and public space surrounding it, much as Frieze and Armory weeks work here. The comparison is ours, not Art Basel's.
What we could not confirm
The fair has not opened as of Oct. 18, so we cannot report sales, attendance or which works will draw attention. We did not confirm the guest who will lead Oh La La!, the exact dates of each public project, or whether any works have been withdrawn. Ticket prices come from the Grand Palais listing and may change.
